When conducting genealogical work with Czech roots, it is essential to rely on dozens of verified sources and specialized tools. Few realize how complex and time-consuming it is to navigate historical records, maps, censuses, and archives, which are often written in old forms of Czech, German, or Latin.
As a native Czech and local expert, I have a deep personal connection to these sources and regions, and most importantly—perfect knowledge of local specifics, official procedures, and the archival system. This allows me to navigate the entire process with an ease and efficiency that is practically unattainable for someone from the United States (or another country). I understand the context, the historical changes in names, and the administrative structure, all of which are crucial for successful tracing.
Although we use hundreds of different sources and databases in our professional research, I have compiled a few useful tools and links for you. These can help anyone who decides to trace their ancestors in the Czech Republic on their own.
